Bettle? - Trichocnemis spiculatus
Colorado Springs, North Cheyenne Canyon region County, Colorado, USA

Found this specimen while hiking at North Cheyenne Canyon at an elevation of 8200'. It appeared to be dead but never confirmed. Found it stuck like is shown in the picture. I wonder what insect it is and why it would be stuck in the pine bark for that matter. Thanks!

Beetle
Very interesting! And completely wrong on my thinking. Thought it was stuck at it was as a result of rapid change of temperatures in the mountains or even being propelled by very strong winds but it's great to ask the experts and have a correct answer. Thank you so much for your prompt reply, Jeff and Gene.

Long-horned Beetle
A Long-horned Beetle that unsuccessfully emerged from host plant after pupating.

Maybe something similar to Prionus.

Trichocnemis spiculatus - Ponderous Borer
Thorax looks like Trichocnemis spiculatus or there abouts... me thinks. I agree with Jeff ... it almost got out ! Gene St.Denis Sierra Nevada Research
