Apple sphinx? - Sphinx gordius

Apple sphinx? - Sphinx gordius
Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, USA
July 24, 2007
This caterpillar was found being attacked by ants on a bare twig. I think it is the northern variety of the Apple sphinx, Sphinx poecila, and he's been eating bayberry. Can anyone confirm my ID?

we'll move it there.
