Not a Gray Comma
The shape of the comma is wrong for Gray Comma ( this is "C" shaped, with a barb at one end ), as is the variegated pattern on the wings. The photo is badly underexposed, so the pattern is hard to see. Lightening the photo, it looks like Eastern Comma, but I don't know if that species flies this far West. It may be a Satyr Comma, which has a similar pattern.

Maybe Hoary Comma
The thick comma and coloration as well as wing shape implies Hoary to me but this becomes a debatable ID since it is very similar to Gray Comma.

One of the Commas, I believe a Gray Comma, Polygonia progne, but I would prefer to see upperside as well.
