Explanation of Names
Prionapteryx is from Greek prion (πριων)- "saw" + pteryx (πτερυξ)- "wing". In referring to the costa of the anterior wing, Stephens mentions that "towards the apex, are three or four deep serratures, by which character alone it may be known from all the indigenous (and I believe other European) genera."
