If this is a ladybug, then it's the largest that I've ever seen, which makes me suspect that it's not. Anybody any ideas of the genus or species for this one?

Hello,
I have a photo of a beetle matching the one shown here. But I noticed when looking at other sites that there seems to be tremendous variation and I would not have identified correctly according to other pictures on this site. It is interesting partly because my photo is almost an identical match and it was also taken in central Texas. San Marcos to be exact.

thanks so much!

Thanks
Hey Eric,

As usual, thanks for your help, on this and the grasshoppers :-)
