Outwitted by a one-shot wasp - Tachypompilus unicolor
Craig Park, Fullerton, Orange County, California, USA
July 11, 2007
Wasp ducks in burrow, comes out quickly. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. This time I'm ready to shoot. Repeat. Shoot. Exit wasp, without time for another take. Can it be IDed strictly from this head-on view?

Moved
Moved from Spider Wasps.

Yes...
T. unicolor.

Thanks, Nick
for the ID and the move.

Tachypompilus.
Looks like Tachypompilus, complete with tuberacle between the antennal sockets. You will want Nick Fensler's appraisal, though.

Thanks, Eric
On hold for imprimatur. Moved to spider wasps in the interim.
