Seeing the eyespots
would help distinguish between Smerinthus cerisyi
and S. jamaicensis .

 
Smerinthus cerisyi
I'd lean towards Smerinthus cerisyi, # 7822. The forewing looks closer to cerisyi (particularly the apical region) and S. jamaicensis is not known to be in Montana (at least not widely enough to be well documented).
