The right carapace was removed for this image. This allowed the distance between the glycerin surface and the clam shimp body to be reduced. Numerical aperture of the objective was reduced too (from 0.14 to 0.1). These changes reduce blurring from the carapace and decrease spherical aberration, significantly improving resolution.

This image is from CombineZP processed stack of 19 images with a uniform step taken with a Nikon CFI Plan Achromat 4×/0.1 microscope objective + Nikon 200 mm F4 ED IF macro lens + Nikon D810 camera (magnification 4×; technique described here).
