The specimen was removed from the glycerin entirely for this image and rinsed briefly with water. Much higher numerical aperature and magnification are now possible since spherical aberration due to the medium has been eliminated. Thin flexible structures such as the telson filaments and furca setae, though, are now wetted to the surface due to residual surface glycerin, and so not clearly visible.
