This specimen was collected from a vernal pool near the southern end of Carlisle Blvd., (Albuquerque East 7.5 minute quadrangle), Kirtland AFB, Bernalillo Co. NM. See Clam shrimp, live remarks for the main discussion of its environment and identification.

The specimen was stored in EOTH 95%, then removed and allowed to dessicate. This renders it transluscent, enhancing the contrast of surface details.

This image is from a CombineZP processed stack of 115 images with a 22.6 µm step taken with a Mitutoyo M Plan APO 5×/0.14 ∞/0 mm microscope objective + Nikon 135 mm F2.8 AIS telephoto lens + Nikon D810 camera (magnification 3.375×; technique described here).
