Drepana caterpillar - Drepana arcuata

Drepana caterpillar - Drepana arcuata
Alberni Valley , Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada
October 22, 2016
Drepana species. Think this is probably Drepana arcuata based on the striped head, but it's more brown on the back than most photos. Drepana bilineata is more brown overall, but the head doesn't look right for that!

Two caterpillars with the same colouration found on the different leaves of the same alder tree.

Thanks, Jim.

Why not Drepana arcuata, as i
Why not Drepana arcuata, as indicated by the dark lines across the face?

Just wanted to get another opinion.
I ran it by Jeremy Tatum and he wasn't sure which it was. He had only reared arcuata, but none of his were completely brown on the back, so he thought bilineata was more likely. He didn't comment on the head. I haven't seen the caterpillar of either species before but I thought it was probably a darker arcuata unless there's variation in the head of bilineata.
If you also think it's arcuata, I'll move it!

I wonder if this caterpillar
I wonder if this caterpillar was prepupal. That might explain the absence of green. Either way, Wagner says the facial lines are diagnostic for arcuata.
