Lycaenid at Old Faithful - Lycaena editha

Lycaenid at Old Faithful - Lycaena editha
Old Faithful, Park County, Wyoming, USA
July 14, 2007
Amazing that anything can survive there, Lycaenids everywhere on the stonecrop, they never would sit still long enough for me to get a lateral view

Arctic Blue?
Picture makes it hard to be sure, but it looks like Arctic Blue (Plebejus glandon). The only other possibility with that pattern is an Arrowhead Blue (Glaucopsyche piasus), but that just doesn't feel right.

Arrowhead
Enlarging the image makes it clear that this is actually an Arrowhead Blue.

ID?
I have a hard time believing it is an Arrowhead Blue. I don't recall the Old Faithful area looking like appropriate habitat as there are not lupines everywhere. Lycaena editha seems much more likely to me for the image and the habitat.

Looks good to me
I agree. That species didn't even come to mind when I saw these photos long ago. Thanks for the catch.
