Bee-Like Fly - Anthidium manicatum

Bee-Like Fly - Anthidium manicatum
Commerce Twp., Oakland County, Michigan, USA
July 24, 2007
Size: about 1" long
Is this a Milesiini, or some sort of Laphria? Or NEITHER?? This critter hovered all around the garden before I got a good shot of it! Hahaha, I showed a friend this pic and he said, "I know what that is--- it's called a 'WANNABEE'!" ;)

Male bee.
Sorry, this really IS a bee, a male wool-carder bee, Anthidium manicatum. This species was introduced here from Europe. Please find more images and information in the guide page for this species.

Anthidium manicatum
WOW! No kidding...I never knew there were any bees that could hover like a Syrphid!

They do hover
Yes, they do hover and zip very well. I have these too. Also called "leaf cutter bee".
