I believe this is a beetle. extremely difficult; genus in need of revision
Range
throughout US and parts of so. Canada to S. America; by far most diverse in Mexico(1)
Food
adults are predaceous, feeding (in part) on the larvae of gall wasps, fruit tree lepidoptera, and wood-boring beetles
