I noticed that there are images of a number of specimens placed under
Epiblema otiosana that to me looked more like
Eucosma parmatana. I had been under the impression based on looking through photos of each that in the former, the silvery-white blotch along the outer margin extends forward in a small lobe while in the latter the lobes are absent. Additionally, most of the
Epiblema otiosana in the guide have nearly immaculate white blotches along the inner margin, whereas in
Eucosma parmatana, this mark seems to typically be quite "dirty." All the images on MPG of the two species match my description of them. There are some images under
Epiblema otiosana, including two identified by Bob Patterson, that I would've identified as
Eucosma parmatana had they come to my porch lights, so I'm now not sure how to tell the species apart, unless of course the images below are all misidentified. For comparison, I've included at the bottom a typically marked
Epiblema otiosana. If someone could point me to the correct identifying characters I'd be very appreciative. Once I have a better idea of what's going on, I'll add species to the other's "see also" section with identifying characters. Thanks!
