Brown Lacewing life cycle - Micromus posticus

Brown Lacewing life cycle - Micromus posticus
at home, Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA
October 22, 2016
Size: ~5 mm w/o mandibles
Genus ID by Dr. Catherine Tauber.

Larva collected accidentally on Oct. 22 while I was collecting aphids. Not sure if it was already a second instar.

The outer cocoon doesn't show up well in the photos. It's a nearly perfect arch against the inside of the vial and the outside of the label. It's faintly visible in images #4 and #5.

Oct. 31 - spun cocoon
Nov. 4 - pupated
Nov. 8 - adult emerged

Image #1 - 2d instar
Image #2 - 3d instar
Image #3 - 3d instar, spinning cocoon
Image #4 - 3d instar, cocoon appears complete or nearly complete
Image #5 - showing pupa and cocoon
Image #6 - close-up of pupa
Image #7 - illustration of placement and form of outer cocoon
Image #8 - adult

Specimen retained.
