Mastophora spider - Mastophora cornigera

Mastophora spider - Mastophora cornigera
Orange, Orange County, California, USA
November 11, 2016
Size: approx. 1/2 inch
I found this spider while trimming my Melalueca. I didn't realize that it was a spider at first, not until I touched it and it moved, brought the legs out a little, so I backed off and got my camera. The egg sack was also unusual, mottled grey and dark grey, not uniform color. The photo of the back side (I think) was taken first.

Moved
Moved from ID Request. In California, that would be cornigera. Nice find. Look around for tiny little males.

Mastophora cornigera
Since Nov. 15 the spider produced two more egg sacks, the last one Feb. 13. On Feb. 27, when I checked her in the morning, she was unresponsive, passed away. I'll keep an eye on the egg sacks to see when they hatch.

Thanks for your comment and the additional help on the name. I enjoyed looking at the other specimens of this group. Will check out the tree for little males, I still have some trimming to do. Also, the size I indicated is only for her abdomen, as I couldn't get a measure on her thorax or head. A big girl.
