Round Fungus Beetles - Agathidium

Round Fungus Beetles - Agathidium
Mt. Washington, Coos County, New Hampshire, USA
July 4, 2007
Size: maybe 2.8 mm stretched
Way smaller than BBs, these little leiodids were frequently encountered under bark during my Forest Service-approved search for Py*tho str*ictus. Here they are tucked into their defensive posture, looking like tiny black seeds of some sort.

Very
neat. First time I have seen an insect like this.
I would certainly have ignored them thinking they were seeds, eggs, or frass.
