striped beetle - Polyphylla crinita

Size: approximately 2.6 cm
Found underneath plastic sheeting; made chuffing sound and lifted carapace up and down when disturbed; hairy/sticky legs ready to grasp whatever offered; eager (?) to return to cover of leafy low plant after photo shoot.
