This emerged from a Prunus caroliniana (cherry laurel) log. The tree was (still is) growing in my yard, and is not native to CA. The log was in my house for ~6 months before the beetle emerged.

Wonder if it might be a Clerid?
Here's one that's reasonably similar

One of the specialists should be able to put a name on it for you.
