Cluster at tip of leaf

Size: cluster ~2 mm
This ball of spider mites was at the tip of an Asclepia curassavica leaf. The main infestation was around the bases of the terminal leaves. This cluster was out at the tip of a leaf and was about 2 mm in diameter. Curious to know if this is a known behavior and the reason for it. The cluster slowly shrank over the course of the day.

Here is a slightly similar aggregation, but mine differs in that the cluster is farther removed from the main webbing.
