Female Darner....they can be
Female Darner....they can be hard.

Has an awful lot of green on the thorax so I would lean towards Mottled Darner (Aeshna clepsydra) as I am not sure any others would have that much (and I don't have the Algonquin guide with me to check).

 
Mottled Darner
The region is correct in both Paulson and the Algonquin Field Guide (AFG). The AFG reports the flight period as July to end of Sept. Given changing weather/climate, the photo being taken Oct 12 isn't far off. AFG says it's rare.
