moth - Protoproutia
Falcon St Pk, Zapata County, Texas, USA

Moved
Moved from Sterrhini.

Just had one here that gave me the confidence to move yours now.

As Dave Barker...
pointed out to me about one of his bugs, Protopoutia laredoata seems like a good home for this beastie. Dave photographed another not-quite-so-similar bug at the same locale as his other one.

Moved
Moved from Euacidalia.

Greg, Moved backwards because I obviously am not qualified to place this moth. See , a Genus I only recently found and which I think resembles your moth. Sorry for the "wrong leads"! The Texas Lep. Society Database says it has been reported in the Valley.

Euacidalia quakerata?
Greg, I went to BOLD and found two darker ones that have at least been seen in Texas. here and here/ I liked the E. quakerata best as a possibility. There were many dark ones from about Costa Rica on the map. BINGO I just checked the Texas Lep database and E. quakerata has been seen in Hidalgo! Have never looked all this up before.

Moved
Moved from Euclidia.

Sorry, I typed in a wrong spelling. This one definitely shows the white on the head! Nice picture. Wish I knew what species could be this dark. May go to Bold and look around.
