I would ove to see your setup
to get such lovely wing images! The lighting is so uniporm and the image so sharp. How do you do it??

Your comments are such an ego booster! Actually this wing was combed so drastically that I had to use a microscope slide to flatten it and shoot the wing through the glass. I placed the wing on a small white plastic board that I found a while ago. I have experimented with paper, porcelain, fabrics, etc. as backgrounds. The reflection from this plastic board gives the images just the right amount of light. Also, its color makes it easy to white balance. Once I obtain an image that I am satisfied with, I use "Microsoft Office Picture Manager 2010" to whiten the background and "Lightroom 6" to remove dust spots and play with the exposure, contrast, highlights, and sharpening tools. Removing the wing from the insect is the hardest part of the process for me. Usually, I use an insect pin to pry it out, but sometimes I tear the wing or manage to accidentally flip the insect off my desk and lose it completely. I hope this helps.
