Asydates inyoensis (Blaisdell) - Asydates inyoensis

Asydates inyoensis (Blaisdell) - Asydates inyoensis
near Death Valley NP, Inyo County, California, USA
May 17, 2016
Size: 4.4 mm
I found a series of these on cactus flowers near Death Valley. These used to have their own genus Pseudasydates but Mawdsley in 2001 moved them into Asydates. They only differ in that the claws lack the ungual appendages that all these Dasytinae have.
The color is quite variable, I have all black ones and some with only the elytral apex being orangey.
