Wasp with captured spider - Episyron

Wasp with captured spider - Episyron
Iverson Bridge Prairie, Allamakee County, Iowa, USA
My camera's date stamp feature did not capture the date of this event, but it was in early summer 2016, June I think.
While exploring a woods near a hill prairie I came across this black wasp with its prey, a spider. As I looked on, the wasp dragged the spider (which had been paralyzed) up the steep side of a large boulder, and deposited it at the very top of the boulder. It remained with its prey for a brief time before flying off, possibly because I was nearby (and slowly moving closer to get a better look). Not long after the wasp left, the spider's legs (which had been curled) extended outward until they were held straight and splayed out from the body. This very curious posture reminded me of a sage grouse fanning out its big tail feathers. What a strange thing!

In this first photo, the spider is the snail-like creature in the lower left of the image, with its wasp attendant nearby.
