These do nest in the well drained soil of scrub habitats, and this is the only native Monomorium found around Naples. Note that the somehwat lighter coloring of the mesosoma is not a species characteristic, just individual.

Could be.
Can you provide habitat/nesting information?
Also, if possible, it would be good to have a picture from behind, showing the shape of the crest of the petiole.

As I remember it,
I captured it in grasses. I will return to my lab sometime in the next few days and get a picture of the petiole. Thanks for your help!
