orange-and-black cicadas - Hadoa duryi

orange-and-black cicadas - Hadoa duryi
near Sierra Vista, Cochise County, Arizona, USA
July 2, 2007
Size: body about 25 mm
There were hundreds or maybe thousands of these making a deafening noise in the shrubs and trees part-way up the hillside on the Miller Canyon Trail.

Moved
Moved from Cicadas.

Interesting
With the exception of Magicicada and to a lesser extent Okanagana I know of no other species of cicadas that form such dense aggregations.

Robin are you from Arizona? I'd love to have a couple of specimens. If you can contact me off of Bugguide, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks
Gerry Bunker
Massachusetts Cicadas

No specimens, sorry
...and until 6 weeks ago I had never visited the southwestern US. Up to 115 Fahrenheit on our trip but dry as a bone, so no sweating at all - I loved it!
