Cow parsnip stalk borer - Depressaria radiella

Cow parsnip stalk borer - Depressaria radiella
Trout Run Trail, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
July 20, 2016
Summer 2016 Entomological co-conspirator MJ Hatfield is on the lookout in NE IA for a Papaipema sp. moth that uses cow parsnip (Heracleum maximum) as a host

July 2016 On a jaunt on the bike trail in Decorah I spot a cow parsnip plant with borer holes. With MJ's search on my mind...I just had to take a look. Found a pupa inside a stalk with a borehole nearby

July 20 (approximately) Adult moth emerges. Not a pap! Not anything else I recognize either (but I don't know my moths).
