Darkling beetle - Eleodes acuticauda

Darkling beetle - Eleodes acuticauda
Johnson's Pasture, Claremont Hills Wilderness Park, Claremont, Los Angeles County, California, USA
December 12, 2016
Crossing Johnson's Pasture Road in the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park. I had assumed this is a ground beetle, but I was wrong – see comment below.

Moved
Moved from Coelocnemis based on comments below. Sorry this isn't a clearer photo – it was taken with my phone.

Moved, Coelocnemis sp.
family Tenebrionidae, actually

Moved from Beetles.

Thanks!
Thanks for the ID and the correction! No wonder I couldn't figure out which ground beetle.

well...it was a beetle on the ground...
so you were not entirely wrong ;-)

Sure it's Coelocnemis?
I see no golden hairs on the tibia, and this realy looks like Eleodes to me, particularly E.acuticaudus. Plus this individual seems to have a spine on it's front right leg, which I'm pretty sure is a feature Coelocnemis lacks.

Agree this is Eleodes
Bent hind femora another clue. Can't see the denticles on the pronotum, but I also agree with the E.acuticaudus determination.
