Mesostigmata
Most likely a phoretic deutonymph in the Uropodina. I will ask Dave Walter if he recognizes it.

Uropodella
Dave Walter says Uropodella (which contrary to my original thought is a sejine rather than a uropodine): http://bugguide.net/node/view/97940/bgimage. In the closeup image you can see the secretions from the anal area that the deutonymphal mite has used to glue itself to the beetle.

Thank yuo both.
What fun.
Also, had you not pointed out the secretions, I certainly would not have seen them.
