Lousewort tip damage - Phytomyza

Lousewort tip damage - Phytomyza
Red Oak Prairie, Allamakee County, Iowa, USA
May 22, 2016
Internal feeding on shoot of lousewort, Pedicularis. Hill prairie. Here the blackened tip of the plant has been pulled away, revealing the hollow shoot with larva inside. Lousewort stems are partly or fully hollow by nature (i.e. even without insect involvement), I believe, so the larva was not necessarily responsible in full for the hollowness of the shoot.
Similar deal, same location, 2015 with some excellent photos of the larvae.

Time to rear this!
