Polistes major nest - Polistes major

Polistes major nest - Polistes major
Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, Alachua County, Florida, USA
January 5, 2017
Since finding Alachua County's first nest of this species in November 2012, I've seen numerous others, but all were built on man-made objects. This nest, hanging about four feet off the ground on a Groundsel Tree (Baccharis halimifolia) along Paynes Prairie's La Chua Trail, is the first P. major nest I've found built on a natural substrate.
