Female
Nice catch! This might be a female
Tachytes harpax
. She is very similar to another species in this same species group,
Tachytes crassus
. However, that species has females with three pale bands on their abdomens. Your's has four of them. -- 6 abdominal segments = ♀
Also, these key features are very important for her ID:
1. - We can just barely see some patches of hairs on the ventral side of the hind femur in the second shot. = Pass
2. - Scape black = Pass
3. - Hind tibia red = Pass
4. - Hind femur more than half black = Pass
5. - Scutum has some anterolateral reflective pubescence = Pass
6. - Females with four pale abdominal bands = Pass
7. - Eastern range = Pass
=
Tachytes harpax
Patton 1881
This is a new species and a species page will need to be created for her. Hold on for an expert opinion, because we still need to rule out all of the other possible species.
