A new species for the guide - Platyarthrus aiasensis - Female
Orange County, California, USA
December 31, 2014
Size: ~2mm
This was one of my primary target species on an isopod hunting trip I took to California two years ago. I was ecstatic to find these! These are the smallest isopods I have ever seen. I'm not good at estimating, but I don't think this species gets larger than 3mm. They are dwarfed by the Argentinian ants with which these specimens were associated.

Great find Eric!
Would like to look for some of our hidden native isopods this year along with snails and diplura. Is the location freely accessible?

Beautiful species!
I would love to have those in my collection. Very nice fine.

Got it

Nice species!
Love the ridges going down it's back. :)
