New Genus - Psectrosciara - Psectrosciara

New Genus - Psectrosciara - Psectrosciara
Chicago / Field Museum Campus, Cook County, Illinois, USA
July 1, 2014
Size: ~2mm
This keys to Psectrosciara in the MND. The wing venation is diagnostic, especially the lack of a "false vein" between M and CuA and the prescence of macrosetae on the membrane (not visible in these photos). 10 species are mentioned, as "western and southwestern". Not sure if this group has ever been found so far east before.

Note that this specimen is in alcohol and has the abdomen quite distended.
