Hab: Rock knob exposed 360ᶛ, thin soil in patches, a very few trees. The black surface underfoot is lichen on rock. The fly was not seen to feed in the short time there.

I originally thought Hemipenthes, but there seems to be no good match at BG for the convoluted wing pattern, nor for the distinct white markings on the body.

Nikon d90; Nikon 50mm with diopter; 1/500s f11.0 iso1000.
