Explanation of Names
Lasioderma haemorrhoidale (Illiger 1807)
Size
2.3-2.7 mm(1)
Identification
Similar to L. serricorne but a little more elongate; hairs on pronotum +/- distinctly parted side to side along the midline; head and venter always darker brown, often also pronotum and base of elytra (in its native range can be almost black, except for elytral tip, but this color form is not yet recorded from the US)
Range
native to, and widespread around the Mediterranean, adventive in CA (established)(1)
Food
Larvae develop in dry flower heads of thistles (cardoon/artichoke probably is in the host range)
