How exciting to have this specimen's ID
confirmed!!- many thanks for your kind help Paul.

Oops, did not check to see what MPG said about range before moving. I still think that is what it is but my ID would have to be confirmed before moving to species.

A- I would be very keen to try to get your
suggested ID for this species (Herpetogramma phaeopteralis) verified; is there someone at MPG that I could send the photo to/contact about this?

I have also long-wondered what the ID for another one of my BugGuide crambid submissions (1285889) could be...looks a lot like a Paracorsia repandalis record on BOLD, but I'm not sure if this species occurs in my area.

If you could point me in the right direction with regards to how to solicit a second opinion on the IDs for these two specimens, I'd very much appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for your kind help!

.
First of all, a full spread view is probably necessary for a very secure ID.

Sorry, I don't know how to help you. Paul Dennehy was the one who first ID'd these to my knowledge on BG and I sent some to BOLD prior to his ID and they corroborated his placements. He does not list an e-mail address, so I have no idea how to get in touch with him.

I can see the confusion with your 1285889 submission, but I am not sure the photos are exactly alike. I have no suggestions as to who to send them to OR who could verify my ID unless it would be Kyhl Austin or Steve Nanz.

I am not sure the 1285889 photo merits further investigation.

Do you ever catch specimens and photograph them further? If you have real questions, I suggest that.

Ann

Thank you very much for
taking the time to respond Ann. As you suggest, in the future I will try to capture more of the moths that I see so that, if need be, they can be submitted for DNA testing and/or photographed further.

I am still hopeful that another BugGuide expert will come along and provide his/her opinion on the IDs for this submission and for 1285889.

Thank you very much once again for your generous help!

Your tentative ID looks like a good match to me A-
thank you very much for taking the time to help! Hopefully someone will be able to confirm the proposed species ID.
