Not the best shot, but maybe good enough for ID?? Anybody know what it is?

Fantastik Foto! One to Drool Over

Maybe
a lichen moth? Lycomorpha pholus, though the red on yours is more extensive

Thanks
Will. Guessed at a lichen moth after posting. Looked at Walsh's SE AZ site and found Lycomorpha fulgens. Sure looks the same red, but will wait confirmation. I'll check out pholus now also.

Close ...
... but this is a Ptychoglene phrada, # 8080. You can distinguish it from the several other similar looking Arctiids by the more extensive black terminal/subterminal area, and the two small black peaks pointing back basally.

Thanks again
J.D. Ptychoglene p. was listed a few entries down on Walsh's site, but thought I had a match so didn't look any further. Glad I waited for confirmation!

My pleasure ...
... as always. I'm sure we've all had that "Eureka! That's it!" moment while IDing an insect ... only to find out we stopped just short. I know I have. :)

I went ahead and created a species page and moved the photo to it. I think that's a great image by the way. You'd be hard pressed to find a shot of a living phrada, much less an image as fantastic as yours.
