The darker one in right-hand photo has been identified as Polistes fuscatus (http://bugguide.net/node/view/133602#170821). Are the yellow-banded ones P. dominula?

correct
the yellower one is polistes dominula, the european paper wasp.
I'm curious, was it really december 31 when you took these photos???
The nests should have died out by then in your erea.

date corrected
I took the pictures today, August 3rd. The previous date was wrong & I don't know where it came from. Thanks for pointing it out.
