Tibicen Pronotalis? - Megatibicen pronotalis

Tibicen Pronotalis? - Megatibicen pronotalis
Norris City, White County, Illinois, USA
August 2, 2007
Size: Approx. 18mm head width
I believe this is a Tibicen pronotalis, but am not sure. It was very noisy, in fact, it startled me as I walked past it so much, I jumped. I picked it up and tried to place it on a leaf for a better shot, but it flew off. These are very hard to ID, I've heard, so I'm trying to size it to best of my memory. But, I believe the head was approximately 18mm or so wide, if that helps.

I should wait before I move these to a guide page.

T. canicularis
a Dog-Day cicada

Not canicularis
This is actually T. walkeri. The prontotal collar and pronotum is a uniform green unlike canicularis.

For reference:

Tibicen pronotalis
Right the first time. "T. walkeri" is a junior synonym.
