I was happy to see a pattern but don't know if it helps with ID. Didn't seem to help me.

Actually there are only two centipedes with patterns like this: the soil centipedes Strigamia branneri and Geophilus vittatus. In Strigamia, the head is much narrower than the body, making it look "pin-headed", whereas in Geophilus the width is constant. The latter is by far the more common. Do you remember what the head looked like?

 
I don't remember.
I had not seen one like this before (or since).
