Juba skipper - Hesperia juba - male

Juba skipper - Hesperia juba - Male
Horn Rapids County Park, Benton County, Washington, USA
May 10, 2012
The male collects salts from the riverbank mud to give to the female during the mating ritual, to help develop the eggs.

Distinguished as male also by the dark, narrow streak in the middle of the forewing, known as a pheromone-releasing "sex brand".

Distinguished from other species in the region by the white rather than yellowish, blocky spots on the underwings.
