Unknown red and black beetle -
Lygaeus kalmii
Mount Vernon, Kennebec County, Maine, USA
May 27, 2013
I have searched several guides, including Stephen Marshall's, and come up with nothing. The markings are so distinctive that I am puzzled how I have come up empty.
