Unknown Fly - Chrysomya megacephala - male

Unknown Fly - Chrysomya megacephala - Male
Auburndale, Polk County, Florida, USA
August 4, 2007
Size: ~ 10 mm
I belive this is a kind of blow fly, a Lucilla sp. or at least a Calliphorida. If you can confirm ID, that would be great. He was very busy taking nectar on a blooming Ligustrum tree.

Nice photo, nice fly, and naggingly familiar
I don't think it's a blow fly, but believe the large, colorful eyes and relatively short body are important characteristics. Hope you get an ID and/or I can remember where I saw this guy.

Your photo
Ron, is it possible that one of your images in the guide shows this fly already? Take a look and compare my photo with yours. Check this species - Chrysomya rufifacies. You've take lots of photos. It is easy to lose track sometimes. :)

Chrysomya rufifacies is it.
But I know it has Hairy Maggot Blowfly, being more skewed towards common names. (I somehow got stuck on "bot*tle fly" when I made my first comment.)

Good memory jogging, Scott!

Not syrphid.
I do think this is a blow fly (family Calliphoridae), as the wing venation is wrong for a syrphid (which would have been my other suspect:-)

What do you think of this species. You've commented on other photos of this species in the guide. Thanks for your comments. I can only imagine how many times you are specifically asked.

Might be a winner:-)
Well, Florida fauna is so NOT my strong suit! I think you found a match, though. Great images in any event.
