Sitting on the fence about this one. Sympistis for sure, but maybe
. Notice the black line in the Median area. These two are VERY close species and very hard to tell apart. The C. attricolaris that I have had tested had much heavier dark lines, but the above photo is associated with a caterpillar for identification, so it must be correct. I have not seen the black line in the median area in S. cottami.
Would like for someone else to chime in!
