Nigrita Bagworm Moth - Cryptothelea nigrita - male

Nigrita Bagworm Moth - Cryptothelea nigrita - Male
Marco Island, Collier County, Florida, USA
March 4, 2017
Size: 7.3 mm forewing length
Based on the long sensory hairs (2 to 2.5 times greater than the diameter of the pectinations), this appears to be Cryptothelea nigrita and not C. gloverii. Moth came to a walkway globe light. See Bagworm Moths of the Western Hemisphere by Donald R. Davis, (http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/7892046#page/6/mode/2up). See diagrams of their antennas on page 217: fig 368 (nigrita) and fig 369(gloverii).
