Globular Springtail - Deuterosminthurus bicinctus - Deuterosminthurus bicinctus - Male
Chanhassen, Carver County, Minnesota, USA
May 25, 2007
Size: 0.6mm
Found on Hydrangea leaf. ID kindly provided by Frans Janssens. Need a new species page for this one!

Moved from Deuterosminthurus.

I just have to say this:
OK, does this bug have the cutest little face, or what!! I'm sure the thing that looks like a smile is not the mouth, but it makes it look like a happy little cartoon bug. Great shot!

Sorry for the exuberance. Please continue with your serious entomological inquiries.

Note also the smiley...
... in the anterior red pigment patch on its dorsum :-)

Boy, this one's really happy.
Makes me happy, too.

To me, it's the composed eyes, with their gentle, pleading look, that tug at my scientific heartstrings. Yes, they are very cute.

Congratulations on your find
Very nice springtail photos.

Thanks, Ron. I've a couple more to post as soon as Frans IDs them.
