gall(?) on grape tendril

gall(?) on grape tendril
Ackworth, Warren County, Iowa, USA
March 11, 2017
Size: ~15 mm long
Woody swellings on grape (Vitis riparia) tendrils wrapped around dogwood (Cornus) stem in old field. At first, I thought they were merely callus tissue induced by abrasion with the dogwood stem, but later wondered if they might actually be galls, perhaps:

I could probably relocate them in the field if more information is needed.

FYI, a Google search for "Vitis tendril swellings" found this page: https://books.google.com/books?id=eblRAQAAIAAJ&pg=RA1-PA167&lpg=RA1-PA167&dq=vitis+tendril+swellings&source=bl&ots=bgEdxIbekq&sig=vVJGklatvrM1bODCTzUKBuATFBU&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiIj-nS_NDSAhUs94MKHeDfBBsQ6AEILTAC#v=onepage&q=vitis%20tendril%20swellings&f=false
